Quadratic equation: solve 25000=150*(r^120-1)/(r-1) for r

Quadratic equation:
25000=150*(r^120-1)/(r-1)
find the value of r
Whoever told you that this was a "quadratic" equation was very badly mistaken. :shock:

I'm guessing that you haven't studied quadratic equations, nor methods of solving them (here), so this rational equation (which is a topic that comes after quadratics, usually by a semester or so) probably seems really confusing. However, it came up in your current class, so they must have covered some method of "solving" this. But we can't know what that method is, at least not without some help from you. So:

How did your instuctor solve similar exercises in class? What does your textbook show in its worked examples? Are you maybe supposed to plug this into some sort of "technology" to get a numerical approximation, such as an Excel spreadsheet, a graphing calculator, or a particular program in your computer lab?

Please be complete, so we can help our best chance of providing advice that makes any sense at all. Thank you! ;)
