I am able to follow the answer to the last line. why is modulus of ab = modulus of x^2-y^2. Only the last part of part (b) that I am having problems with.

Do the algebra! What is \(\displaystyle |X^2- Y^2|= \left|\frac{a^2+ 2ab+ b^2}{4}- \frac{a^2- 2ab+ b^2}{4}\right|\)?

Sorry I feel so dumb. I have another conic question problem. But what do they mean 'from the equation of H this is equal to one?'I think its to do with the fact that y=x so they are equal right?
I have another conic problem but i will make a new post for that.

That is the equation for hyperbola.

Could you please explain how they got a=X+Y in (a). I know its algebra but I am trying to work it out.
Please show your attempt!

I would multiply through by Y, and then rearrange and, as it turns out, factor out (X-Y) from both sides.

Read and work through the given solutions.

In the solution for 16(a) - the 8th and 9th lines explain your dilemma.

Please "work-through" with pencil/paper - you would have seen it clearly.....

I got the answer now. Once the modulus of x^2-Y^2 =ab, this is also equal to 1. so the mod OA x mod OB is 2 ab hence 2.There isnt that much calculation to do.
