You are correct. Your teacher is an idiot and should be fired for gross incompetence.

[MATH]\dfrac{200}{70} = \dfrac{200}{70} * 1 = \dfrac{\dfrac{200}{1}}{\dfrac{70}{1}} * \dfrac{\dfrac{1}{200}}{\dfrac{1}{200}} = \dfrac{\dfrac{200}{200}}{\dfrac{70}{200}} = \dfrac{1}{\dfrac{70}{200}}.[/MATH]

my approach to get the amount of green pens did not add up considering the red and black pens. Then I found the amount of pens/colour per bag a bit of a distraction.
Your help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

If your answer was 96, I agree. I first translated the ratio of packs to a ratio of pens, then considered how many such sets of pens would total 212.

Can you show us your work?

Initially thought that JeffM was being extremely harsh on your teacher. Then I looked at the problem! Just divide both numbers by 200. How did your teacher not see that! Your teacher has a lot of improvements to make before I would say idiot. How sad.

My concern with your answer is that it can't be correct because you did not answer the question. Your answer was that there were 96 pens sold. The format of the answer should be that there were x green pens sold. Your answer also contradicts that you were told that there were 212 pens sold!
