Supply reasons for the steps in the proof of the following statement: For all real numbers a and nonzero numbers b, if ab=b, then a=1.

1. a is a real number; b is a nonzero real number; ab=b
2. 1/b is a real number.
3. (ab) times 1/b= b times 1/b
4. a(b times 1/b)= b times 1/b
5. a(1)= 1
6. a=1

Since we don't know what "properties" you have been given, nor what your book calls them, there may not be much we can do to assist. So pull out your textbook and your class notes, find all the properties with which you have to work, and see which one(s) fit (or justify) the steps being taken.

that was the question in my book, you are supposed to proove the theories, its possible.

if you didnt know how to do it then i suggest next time you dont reply

Next time if you cannot give us the complete information then you do not need to post at this site. Thank you.

excuse me but i did leave all the proper information, do you people not know what it is to proove with theorems? obviously not. that was all th information in my book, i solved it without your help, and fyi, when a person is asking for help its because they really need it not because they did something wrong.

As previously mentioned, no, you did not. Different books present different results, using different names, in different orders. We do not know what is in your book; we do not know what tools you have at your disposal.

Really? The entire textbook contained only that one exercise? It had no lessons? No examples? No index or title page or glossary or anything? "That" one exercise "was all th[sic] information in [your] book"?

My gracious.
