Here's another proof I'm a bit confused about, help would be appreciated:

Suppose v1, v2 and v3 are linearly independent vectors in a vector space V over the rationals. Show that the vectors v1+v2, v1+v3, and v2+v3 are also linearly independent.

I don't know really where to start with this. Help please?

What is the definition of "linear independence"?
