I am having problems getting to the correct answer of y = 11/2 for the problem below.

-11y + 7/2 = 9

This is what I have done but don't know where I am going wrong

I times everything by 2 to get

-22y/2 + 14/2 = 18/2 then I subtract 14 from both sides

-22y/2 = 4/2 then I simplify the fractions and get

-11y = 2

I don't know if I started the problem right but if I did my understanding is to divide both sides by -11. When I do I am getting an answer of y=2/11. The problem and answer of y=11/2 is from an example so I know it is correct. I don't know where I am going wrong to get the answer backwords of 2/11. I have found myself questioning if I am doing the last part wrong or if I started off wrong. Any help will be extreamly appreciated as I have multiple problems like this and am stuck cause I am missing a step or have a misunderstanding I can't identify.

I am having problems getting to the correct answer of y = 11/2 for the problem below.

-11y + 7/2 = 9 the value of y that satisfies this "problem-statement" is:

y = - 1/2

This is what I have done but don't know where I am going wrong

I times everything by 2 to get

You should get

-22 y + 7 = 18

-22y/2 + 14/2 = 18/2 <<<< Incorrect

Rest needs to be fixed accordingly....

then I subtract 14 from both sides

-22y/2 = 4/2 then I simplify the fractions and get

-11y = 2

I don't know if I started the problem right but if I did my understanding is to divide both sides by -11. When I do I am getting an answer of y=2/11. The problem and answer of y=11/2 is from an example so I know it is correct. I don't know where I am going wrong to get the answer backwords of 2/11. For the problem that you have posted - the answer CANNOT be y = 11/2

First off thank you for your help. I think I've found where I was going wrong. Forgive me as I don't recall the proper terms but I use the 2 from 7/2 to times everything but not to make everything else x/2. If it was 7/3 times things by 3? Instead I am to take individuval components. So allow me to make my own example by changing the number to see if I understand. -24y + 9/2 = 30. I honestly just plugged in different numbers. I am trying to help my family with their homework and its been awhile since I've done this.

2(-24y) + 2(9/2) = 60 I get 18/2 because it would actally be 2/1 * 9/2? 2*9=18 and 1*2=2 Before I was placing the 2 as the denominator complete wrong?

-48y + 18/2 = 60 simply the fraction by divideing 18 by 2 = 9?

-48y + 9 = 60 subtract both sides by 9?

-48y = 51 divide both sides by -48?

y = -51/48 simplify the fraction by finding a common denominator i used 3?

y = -17/16?

For finishing the original question as follows

-22y + 7 = 18 subtract 7 from both sides

-22y = 11 divide both sides by -22

y = -11/22

y = -1/2?

Thank you both for your help! I realize that saying Imade up the problem could come off as a lie and I apologize for asking orconfirming for another answer. I am truly grateful for your help as my son hasstarted fractions in school and my girlfriend went back to school and is struggling.I don't know a better way to ask other than show though. The first question wasfrom an example and the second one I did truly just change the numbers becauseshe logged off her homework page and had to run errands. So I had no othermeans to get an example. I wanted to explain myself a bit because I have afeeling I will be looking for more help in the future and hope not to inappropriately askor lose help. Do you have any suggestions on a better way to find out where I am going wrong in the future?

Sincerely,
Jason
