Any help on why this is true would be great.

(1)23=[(1)2]13\displaystyle (-1)^{\frac{2}{3}} \, = \, [(-1)^{2}]^{\frac {1}{3}}

Thank u :D

or (1)2/3 = [(1)1/3]2 = 1.\displaystyle or \ (-1)^{2/3} \ = \ [(-1)^{1/3}]^{2} \ = \ 1.
