A 234-ft pole is driven 26 ft into the bottom of a lake that is 89 ft deep. On the pole is a rust mark 41 ft below the surface of the water. A hook hangs 5 ft from the top of the pole. How far is the hook from the rust?

This is what I came up with but I think...it's kind of ...wrong? :? I'm not sure.

234 - 26 = 208

89 - 41 = 48

234 - 5 = 229

234 - 41 = 193

229 - 41 = 188

The hook is 188 ft from the rust.

the best way to solve this is by sketching a picture of the situation ...

Code:
* 5'
*_ hook
*
*
*
*
* 114'
*
*
*
------------ lake surface
*
* 41'
*
*_ rust mark
*
* 48'
*
*
------------ bottom of lake
*
* 26'
*

can you figure it out now?

Sry skeeter but I was working on a pic and I did not want to waste it.

So we are trying to solve for \(\displaystyle \L x\). So \(\displaystyle \L 5+x+48+26=234\) Solve for \(\displaystyle \L x\).
