Write an expression in terms of the given variable that represents the indicated quantity.

a. The cost of having a plumber spend h hr at your
house if the plumber charges $20 for coming to the
house and $25 per hour for labor
b. The amount of money in cents in a jar containing
d dimes and some nickels and quarters if there are
3 times as many nickels as dimes and twice as many
quarters as nickels
c. The sum of three consecutive integers if the least
integer is x
d. The amount of bacteria after n min if the initial
amount of bacteria is q and the amount of bacteria
doubles every minute. (Hint: The answer should contain
q as well as n.)
e. The temperature after t hr if the initial temperature
is and 40 degrees F each hour it drops by 3 degrees F.
f. Pawel’s total earning after 3 yr if the first year his
salary was s dollars, the second year it was $5000

\(\displaystyle I'll \ do \ a \ for \ you \ to \ get \ you \ started, \ besides \ it \ is \ the \ easiest.\)

\(\displaystyle C(h) \ = \ \$20.00+\$25.00(h).\)

\(\displaystyle All \ right \ yara0575, \ since \ I \ have \ a \ good \ heart, \ I'll \ do \ b \ for \ you.\)

\(\displaystyle n+d+q = \ number \ of \ coins\)

\(\displaystyle .05n+.10d+.25q \ = \ value \ of \ coins\)

\(\displaystyle Now, \ n \ = \ 3d \ and \ q \ = \ 2n\)

\(\displaystyle Hence \ V(d) \ = \ .10d+.05(3d)+.25(2n) \ = \ .10d+.15d+.5n \ = \ .25d+.5(3d) \ = \ .25d+1.5d \ = \ \$1.75(d)\)

\(\displaystyle Note: \ V \ stands \ for \ total \ value \ of \ coins, \ in \ regards \ to \ how \ many \ dimes \ there \ are.\)

\(\displaystyle V(d) \ = \ \$1.75(d)\)

\(\displaystyle a. \ C(h) \ = \ \$20.00+\$25.00(h), \ C \ = \ cost\)

\(\displaystyle b. \ V(d) \ = \ \$1.75(d), \ d \ = \ dime, \ V \ = \ total \ value\)

\(\displaystyle c. \ S(x) \ = \ 3x+3, \ S \ = \ sum\)

\(\displaystyle d. \ B(t) \ = \ q(2^t), \ B \ = \ number \ of \ bacteria\)

\(\displaystyle e. \ T(t) \ = \ 40-3t, \ T \ = \ temperature\)

\(\displaystyle f. \ ?????????, \ Anyone \ get \ f?\)
