probability

Expand this: (p+q)^3

Ponder it until all your questions are answered.

When Ayla improves her game of darts the chances that a she hits a bullseye is 0.65.
Assume that each throw is independent.
What are the chances that three darts fired in succession will all hit bullseye?

That is three bullseyes in a row.

Three independent events, each of them P = .65: (.65)(.65)(.65) = .274625

If the probability of a hit is .65, then the probability of no hit is 1 - .65 = .35.

So the P that none will hit in three tries is (.35)(.35)(.35) = .042875

What are your thoughts for 1 or 2 hits?

wjm11 just gave you p^3 and q^3. You're half done. Let's see what YOU get.
