Hi. The problem in question is that I have to find P( X < 0 or X > -0.5), where f(x) = 1.5x squared for -1 < x < 1.
I kind of broke up the problem into two parts. I first found P( X < 0 ) by integrating f(x) from 0 to -1. I came up with .5 as my answer.
I did the same with finding P(X > -0.5) by integrating f(x) from -.5 to 1. I came up with .56250.
Next, I added the two values together since "or" implies adding. Is this right? thanks.
