Mary has 48 coins made up of nickels, dimes, and quarters with a total value of $5.10. She has 4 more dimes than nickels and quarters combined. How many coins of each does she have?

I am really stuck on this problem, if someone could show me the steps that would help a lot!

Start with naming the variables:

# of quarters = Q

# of dimes = D

# of nickels = N

Mary has 48 coins .... so

Q + D + N = 48

Continue....

To learn the basics of how to set up and solve this sort of exercise, try here. Once you have studied the lesson and worked through the example problems, start with the variables provided to you in the other reply. Then apply the method in the lesson to create useful equations.

If you get stuck, please reply showing all of your thoughts and efforts so far, starting with the variable definitions that the other helper gave you. Thank you! ;)
