30/12 - 63/12 + 22/12

= 24/12 + 6/12 - 60/12 + 3/12 + 12/12 + 10/12

= 30/12 - 57/12 + 22/12

= -5/12

-33/12 + 22/12

-11/12

.

Easier to skin the cat this way:
Whole numbers:
2 - 5 + 1 = -2
Fractions:
1/2 + 1/4 + 5/6 = 6/12 + 3/12 + 10/12 = 19/12

Wrap 'em up:
-2 + 19/12 = -24/12 + 19/12 = -5/12

that does seem easier i will do it from now on but why is the fractions line all +

shouldnt it be 6/12 - 3/12 + 10/12 = 13??

@Subhotosh Khan sorry but i dont understanding that working out S:

i answered all the other questions correctly but my method doesnt work for this one ):

EDIT:
i used an online calculator and it got same answer as mine

No; here what you posted:
2+1/2 - 5+1/4 + 1+5/6

+1/4 , not -1/4

Unless you intended -(5 + 1/4)

oops yes thats what i meant sorry guys

so proper way to write it out would of been

(2+1/2) - (5+1/4) + (1+5/6) ??

Or, you could have typed \(\displaystyle \ 2\frac{1}{2} \ - \ 5\frac{1}{4} \ + \ 1\frac{5}{6}\)

using [ tex ] \ 2\frac{1}{2} \ - \ 5\frac{1}{4} \ + \ 1\frac{5}{6}[ /tex ]

But don't type any spaces between the brackets and "tex," and also no spaces between the brackets and "/tex."

Obviously you have changed everything to the "common denominator", 12, and combined pairs of numbers:
2= 24/12, 1/2= 6/12 and 24/12+ 6/12= (24+ 6)/12= 30/12: so 2+ 1/2= 30/12
-
5= -60/12, 1/4= 3/12 and -60/12+ 3/12= (-60+ 3)/12= -57/12. That's your mistake: -5+ 1/4= -57/12, not -64/12. That would be "-5- 1/4".

1+ 5/6= 12/12+ 10/12= 22/12

-33/12 + 22/12
30/12- 57/12= -27/12, not -33/12 so this should be -27/12+ 22/12.

-11/12
