Polynomials

Hi Shirley:

I'm also wondering what you've learned, so far. (This is a beginning-algebra exercise.)

To solve for x means using valid algebra steps to get the variable x all by itself on one side of the equal sign.

Can you complete the following steps, in order?

(1) Add 8x to both sides

(2) Subtract 2 from both sides

(3) Divide both sides by 8

If you would like more help, please show whatever work that you can (even if you think it's wrong), so that we can determine where to continue helping you.

Cheers,

~ Mark

Solve for x.
3y - 8x = 2

I'll do a similar but different problem:

Ax + By = C ....................where A, B & C are constants

Ax + By - By = C - By

Ax = C - By

Ax/A = (C - By)/A

x = (C - By)/A

x = C/A - B/A * y
