somehow you have to line up the terms and add them its so confusing please could someone help.

The way to write exponents is
(a^4-2a^3+3a^2-a+7)+(2a^4-3a^3+2a^2-a+6)+(a^4-2a^3+2a^2-5)
Just take all the a^?s and add them. You can cross them off as you use them if it helps.
(1+2+1)a^4+(-2-3-2)a^3+(3+2+2)a^2+(-1-1)a+(7+6-5)
