Hey,

I used to know how to do this but I forget. How do I find the product for (x-5)(x+7)?

The actual answer is x²+2x-35 but I keep ending up with x²-35. I must be forgetting a step because I tried some other questions and all my answers are missing the middle term.

Thanks!

The magic word is FOIL.
it stands for First. Multiply the two first terms. x & x (You did that.)
Outer. Multiply the two outer terms. x & 7 (Skipped.)
Inner. Multiply the two inner terms. -5 & x (skipped.)
Last. Multiply the two last terms. -5 & 7 (you did that)
Gather like terms.
