What do I have to know to solve problems like [(x^n)-1]/(x-1) ??

I know D'Alembert's teorem and I know the basic to do a polinomial division, but questions like this is too difficult for me.

Do you have some exercises or books to help me on questions like this ??

Thank you all.

What do you mean by "solving" this expression? Are you supposed to find the domain of the related function? Find any asymptotes? Graph the function? Evaluate for some value of x? Or somethign else?

Please be complete. Thank you! ;)

\(\displaystyle \frac{x^n- 1}{x- 1}= x^{n-1}+ x^{n-2}+ x^{n-3}+ \cdot\cdot\cdot+ x^2+ x+1\).

I thought everyone knew that!
