Hello everyone!

I have a question regarding the earnings of ski jumping athletes. The sequence goes like this: 1st place gets 100 points or 10.000€ and the 30th gets 1 point or 100€. How much does the 5th or the 15th or the 20th gets? You can write the whole sequence if your are willing to.

I believe it has something to do with geometric sequence, but I can't calculate it with my basic knowledge.

Thank you and be well!

The problem cannot be solved without further information!

Please post the EXACT problem!

I am sorry, I don't have any other information.

The only thing I know is that 1st place gets 100 points and 10.000€ and that 30th place gets 1 point and 100€. 1 point is 100€.

If the problem isn't solvable than only thing I can say is thank you for reading. ?

I believe that the 2nd place gets 80 points and the 3rd 60 points. Doesn't make any difference, does it?

IF it is geometric then the terms are in the following fashion where a is the 1st term and r is what you multiply each term by to get the next term

a, ar, ar2, ar3, ... ar29, ...

We know that the 1st term is 100, so a = 100, and we know that the 30th term, ar29, equals 1.

So we can find the value for r from the equation 100*r29= 1 or r29 = 1/00. Can you find r from here?

Of course then second place would not be 80 points and third place would not be 60 points. That would be, so far, an arithmetic sequence with initial value 100 and common difference -10. But if that continued, 30th place would be 100- 10(29)= -190. If you do badly enough, you have to pay them!

You have to pay them ahead anyway - entrance fee - to join this racket.
