hi,

this is the math problem i am trouble w/

Marcia paid $36 for a dress that was on sale for 25% of the original price. What was the original price!

(a) $48 (b) $60 (c) $180 (d) $144

Please, in detail, describe the steps taken to reach the answer. Thanks!

Step #1 - Name Stuff

P = Original Price

Now, how do P, $36, and 25% relate to each other?

Read the problem statement VERY CAREFULLY.

The original price was P
She paid 25% of the original price, (P) or .25*P

try something simple;
say original was $100; she paid 25% of that...

Thirty-six is one-fourth. How much is four fourths?

Eliz.

P.S. Note: I'm assuming that "25% of the original price" is correct, and that you didn't type "of" instead of the more usual "off", which would of course give an entirely different answer.
