I haven't done algebra in years and years and need a little refresher. My fiancee is going back to school and getting frustrated.

The problem is

c/3+7=2c

he's got the answer but can't figure out how to get there.

Can anyone help with the explination?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

c/3 + 7 = 2c
step#1, put the c's together:
2c - c/3 = 7
step#2, multiply by 3 to get rid of fraction:
6c - c = 21
step#3, finish the critter:
5c = 21
c = 21/5

thank you very much...one more question please!?!?

can you explain the first step you did with a little more detail?

why when you move the 7 to the other side does it stay positive?

and why when you move the 2c to the other side is it 2c-c/3 and not c/3-2c?

signed,
confused still (what a dork i am, eh?)

Take a closer look. That's not what he moved.
