Mr. Vicario and his 23 students are planning to have hot dogs in class; hot dogs come 12 per package and buns 8 per package; if the class invites the principal; secretay; bus drive and 3 parents how many packages of hot dogs and buns does Mr. Vicario have to buy? How many hot dos and buns will each person get if there are no leftovers;

I started with 72 hot dogs and buns but there will not be and even amount of food for all

please help need answer tonigth assignment due tomorrow

It seems an important first step to determine the number of people. How do you count?

You are feeding 30 people so part 1 is 36 hot dogs and 32 buns for one apiece.
part 2 needs the smallest multiple of 30 that is a multiple of both 8 and 12. That would be 120 or 4 apiece, by trial and error.
If you are doing diophantine equations, come back with a post-reply and I'll do it that way.

30 people.
Hubby and I are in disagreement over daughters assignment; i say that both the first part of the problem and the second have to match but he says opposite.

Thanks for all the help. Sometimes i just hate it when the teacher doesn't explain things the right way and confuses the kids. :)

I'm not sure the problem intends to ask two questions. It may.

If one is to stop reading at the first question mark, there is not yet any information about leftovers. The new information about leftovers changes the result, making two different answers. I think Gene is right on, except for his use of the "D"-word. :)
