My book doesnt explain problems specificly, and I just need to know how to do this step by step.... Thank You! :)

If you multiply "both sides" by 8 - what do you get?

Yes, you multiply the whole number with the denominator then add it with the numerator. :)

So your equation is now:

\(\displaystyle \frac{y}{8} \ + \ 10 = \ 14\frac{1}{4}\)

\(\displaystyle \frac{y}{8} \ + \ 10 = \ \frac{57}{4}\)

Now isolate 'y' by first subtracting 10 from both sides .... What do you get?
