Find the value(s) of x for which f(x) = g(x).
f(x) = x² + 2x + 1
g(x) = 3x + 3
This is what I have so far.
x² + 2x + 1 = 3x +3
x² + 2x - 3x = 3 - 1
x² - x = 2
x(x - 1) = 2
I'm not sure what to do from here. I know the answers are 2 and -1 because I looked in the back of the textbook. I can see how those answers would fit if you just sat and tried to figure out what would fit in for x by guessing, but I'm not good at that and I'm not sure how they got those answers because I don't know where to go from here.
