estimate the sum first then add simplify 2 5/6+9 3/8 what is the answer

First of all when I saw your answer, at the end of it I started laughing. Second, thanks because I actually understand it now. My mom tried to explain it but she seriously didn't know. She is 39 and this is 6th grade math........ I knew the answer but I didn't know how to figure it. What I did was work it out (and got an answer of 12.2083333) and answer the one that is that estimated. It said I got it right, so Thank You.

that was for Jeff, but this one is in reply to Denis. I have to say you taught me a new way to work it. It is actually the way my teacher "wants" me to learn it, so thanks. I didn't get yelled at for doing my method. So i can homestly say thanks to both.
