hello i really need some help with the following questions ive sat for hours and hours trying to work out how to do them and cant get my head around it! its for a really important assignment so would love ya if u could help?

The ratio of oranges to apples in a shop is 3:5 if there are 60 oranges how many apples? i worked out 20:100 ? is this right?

In the questions below you will need to convert between metric and imperial units use the following approximate conversions

2.5cm = 1 in // 1KM = 5/8miles= 0.6 Miles
1 Mile = 8/5 km - 1.6km // 1 KG = 2.2 // 1 1b = 450G
1 Litre = 1.75 pts // 4.5 Litres = 1 Gallon

---------------------------------------------------------------

The distance between two service stations on the motorway is given as 24 miles. find the distance in km ( take 1 mile = 8/4KM)
*** i worked out 24 X 1.6 = 38.4 KM is this right lol?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Which is heavier 4oz or 100g ( Hint write 4oz as a fraction of one pound and go from there)
*** have no idea how to work this out -- HELP PLEASE!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
the distance between two points is measured as 0.4km. find the distance in yards ( use 1 mile = 1760 yards)
*** AGAIN have no idea how to work this out !!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
30 litres of petrol are purchased at a filling station. state this amount in A) pints B) Gallons

i think pints = 1.75 x 30 = 52.5 pints ? am i wrong?
How do i work out the gallons?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
LAST QUESTION SORRY U PRONS THINK I AM A RIGHT THICKO LOL :(
a builder orders 2 tonnes of sand state this amount in

A) Kg B) 1b C) Tons ( use 1 ton = 22401b.)

im sure this would take someone really clever about 5 mins!! ive tried so hard ti get it but cant

thanks in advance - x x x

No. You just wrote another ratio. You did not say how many apples there are. There are 8 parts altogether. 3 parts is oranges and 5 parts apples.

In other words, 60 is 3/8th of what number?. Or, stated another way, 60 is 37.5% of what number?.

Yep.

There are 28.35 grams in an ounce. I would go from there.

Use the idea from the first one. \(\displaystyle \frac{0.4}{1.61} \;\ miles\). Multiply that by 1760 to find the yars in .4 km.

Or...

there are \(\displaystyle \frac{5}{3}\) times as many apples as there are oranges, so apples=\(\displaystyle \frac{5}{3}60=5(20)=100\)

If you're trying to ask whether or not the answer to this exercise is "there are 100 apples", then the answer to your question is "yes".

You could let x = unknown number of apples and then write a proportion.

3/5 = 60/x

3x = 300

x = 100

1 Litre = 1.75 pts << This is UK pints, and it's improperly rounded.

1 L = 1.76 pints (UK)

4.5 Litres = 1 Gallon << This is UK gallons.

Since they rounded to two decimal places before, I'd use 4.55 L = 1 gallon (UK)

Your reasoning looks good. I like 1.76(30) = 52.8 pints better.

How do i work out the gallons?

You could let x = the unknown number of gallons, and solve a proportion.

4.55/1 = 30/x

I'm not sure on this exercise because you've seemingly used "ton" and "tonne" interchangably.

1 long ton (UK) = 2240 pounds

1 tonne = 2204.6 pounds = 1 metric ton

Are they asking you to convert 2 tonnes to long tons (UK) for part (C), followed by conversion to kilograms for part (A) and pounds for part (B)?

Perhaps, "tonnes" is a typographical error.
