piecewise function problem describing area

write the piecewise function that describes the shaded area as a function of the height of the water, h.

i'm sorry, i tried, but i don't understand how to use piecewise functions to describe area........... no online sites ever make refrence to that sort of problem..... i don't know how to start

Bust it up into smaller problems, looks like from 0<=h<=8 it's a rectangle, from 8<h<=16 its a rectangle + a trapezoid, and above that I have no idea because your drawing is terrible.
