Phase shift?

Hi, this might be sort of a stupid question because i am sure it is reallly easy to do but i was wondering if any of you guys could help me with this. I just learnt phase shitf today along with amplitude, period and vertical shift, but when it comes to phase shift i am so confused. I think its because we are using pie and that confuses me even mooore. I dont have an example on me, but lets say the phase shift is left pie/3, can someone please show me how to move it? Or if its easier for you just explain how to do it in general? Thankks so much in advance!
