What is the slope of a line perpendicular to the x-axis?

This doesn't have a graph or a set off numbers. It's just a question.

Is infinity allowed? That's one of the reasons, IMO, why the standard form for a line of
ax + by = c
evolved. The slope would be defined as -a/b if b were not zero, otherwise you would have a line perpendicular to the x axis. But what if b is 'almost zero'
