5) The commission on the sale of a small cottage was $3975. What was the selling price of the property, if the commission rate is 5%?

Most of us will not do home work. We will all help you where you are stuck if you tell us what you have done so far. We will all give you hints to get you started if you are stymied in getting started.

Let's try a hint.

C = R * S, where
C = Commission,
R = commission Rate, and
S = Selling price

So how do you solve your problem?

Let's do a similar but different problem:

The sales tax on the sale of a dress was $10. What was the ticketed price (without the tax) of the dress - if the sales tax rate is 10%?

let the ticketed price = P

Then sales tax = 0.10 * P

Thus

0.10 * P = 10

P = 10/0.10 = 100

So the ticketed price of the dress was $100.
