Can someone please help me with this basic question? Thank you.

If the school newspaper is selling advertising for $600 per full page, what percent is saved by purchasing a 1/4, 1/2, or full size ad?

1/8 $75
1/4 $125
1/2 $175
FULL $300

Are you SURE you have given us all of the information for this problem...somehow, I don't think you have!!

If a full page costs $600, then if you purchase a full page ad, you would pay $600 and not save anything!

Most newspapers (including the one I work for) charge MORE for a 1/2 page add than half the cost of a full-page ad. And a 1/4 page add costs more than 1/4 the cost of a full-page ad.

Therefore, I don't think you have given us ALL of the information needed for this problem.

Please repost, and tell us the FULL AND EXACT text of the problem in your assignment.

Re: Percentage Question

The question was asked and I did my best to take a note: If the school newspaper is selling advertising for $600 per full page, what percent is saved by purchasing a 1/4, 1/2, or full size ad...?

at these (sale/special) prices:

1/8 = $75
1/4 = $125
1/2 = $175
FULL = $300

If the price is $600/full page, the $300 price is 50% savings. There's no savings to buy the 1/8 page. It's the ones in between I'm stumped on, but I figured 17% and 42%, respectively.

Ok...if you buy a 1/4-page ad for $125, that would equate to 4*$125, or $500 for a full page. So, you save $100. What percent of $600 is $100?

If you buy a 1/2-page ad for $175, that would equate to 2*$175, or $350 for a full page. So you save $600 - $350, or $250. What percent of $600 is $250?

It looks like your answers of approximately 17% and 42% are correct.
