My son is trying to earn some bonus work in class and I can't help very much in figuring out his patten problem,

1,1,11,6,6

the questions are : the number pattern uses addition, _____________, and __________________________

the pattern is ___________________, _______________________, and ______________________.

Write the next five numbers in the pattern, _____._____,______,______._________

My son thinks the numbers should be 16,11,11,21,16

add 0. add 10, subtract 5 is this correct?
any help would be appreciated

The "correct" answer is whatever the author had in mind when he wrote the problem. Maybe your son's guess is right; maybe it isn't. There really isn't any way to know.

Maybe the rule is "start with 1, duplicate, concatenate; add 5, duplicate, concatenate", so the sequence is 1, 1, 11, 6, 6, 66, 11, 11, 1111, 17, 17, and so forth. Who knows?

If your son is fairly confident that his answer is the sort of thing the teacher is looking for, then I'd say "go for it". But he should be prepared to defend his answer, because there are probably infinitely-many "solutions", only one of which is "right".

Good luck!

Hello, chrissig!

My son is trying to earn some bonus work in class and I can't help very much in figuring out his patten problem,

1, 1, 11, 6, 6

The number pattern uses addition, ___, and ___.

The pattern is ___, ___, and ___.

Write the next five numbers: __. __, __, __. __.

My son thinks the numbers should be 16,11,11,21,16

add 0, add 10, subtract 5 is this correct?
The first question seems to be asking for three operations . . . or not.

If this is true, we can use: .multiply by 1, add 10, subtract 5.

Either way, I agree with your son's next five numbers.
