Revising for an (very soon) upcoming exam, and came across this question (see attached). I have the answers, but nothing else, and I am lost... ;-(

Any help will be much appreciated!

Turning f(x) into h(x) has the instruction "write down". This is intended to be a small thing, a layup, and eyeball problem. There are various names for it.

How far does the vertex move to the right?
How far does the vertex move up?

You simply MUST make this sort of thing second nature if you are going to succeed in the calculus.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was after help with (b) and (c). (a) is the easy one, I agree ;-) -5 and 3.

(b) Use what you know about the integral as area. Use the given area, and the formula you've memorized for the area of a rectangle.

(c) Use what you know about the symmetry of parabolas. ;)
