A 5 pound bag of table salt was accidentally dumped into a 2000 gal. tank of water. It was found that this quantity is near the threshold taste value for salt. How many ppm does this represent? :(

Here are my choices, it is suppose to be one of these answers
(A) 256 ppm
(B) 300 ppm
(C) 382 ppm
(D) 423 ppm

A recirculated water cooling system in a dairy contains 25,000 gallons. Due to evaporation, the alkalinity had increased to 80 ppm. 3.8 pounds of this was removed by adding 1 gallon of muriatic acid. What is the resulting alkalinity after adding the acid? :( :(

I don't know how to do or start this one eaither

Here are my choices. it is suppose to be one of these answers
(A) 48 ppm
(B) 54 ppm
(C) 62 ppm
(D) 70 ppm

How do you measure ppm, molecules? volume? mass?
