Establish the linear independence of the basis functions {?[sub:2vdufelb]i[/sub:2vdufelb]} ; i=1 to N. I'm not really sure how to approach this problem.
I know that to establish linear independence i need to set the linear combination of all the members of the set equal to zero and then prove that the constants in front of each individual piece of the combination is zero, but i'm not sure how to do that. Can someone push me in the right direction for this problem?
If it helps at all this is dealing with finite element method, and the ?'s are the finite elements from 1 to N
