Here is the problem verbatim:

An architect designs a rectangular flower garden such that the width is exactly two-thirds of the length. If 260 feet of antique picket fencing are to be used to enclose the garden, find the dimensions of the garden.

So I figured i'd use the letters L & W to denote length and width. So 2lx2w=260, right? but now what? Could you show me how to complete the problem?

Thanks,
Sarah

2l + 2w=260, .............................................(1) ....... Mistake here

that the width is exactly two-thirds of the length → W = 2/3 * L

Putting this in (1)

2L + 2* 2/3 * L = 260

Now you have 1 equation with 1 unknown - solve it.
