I am taking a math methods course without the text. We only have a brief summary to work with. I remember solving these in intermediate algebra...can you please show me how to set this up?

Nick spent 50% of an inheritance as a down payment on a house and invested 1/3 of the inheritance. The down payment cost $40,000. How much of his inheritance did he invest?

Thank you!

Again, very similar.

Name Stuff.

I = Nick's Inheritance

Think Through

Down Payment = I * 0.5 = I/2 = 40000
Investment = I * (1/3) = I/3

Can you do the rest?

algebra

Thank you for your reply.

I take 40,000 times 2 to get the total inheritance, which is 80,000.
I then take 1/3 times 80,000.
He invested $26,664.

Thank you and let me know if this is incorrect:)
