Hello everyone,

you helped me out so much the other day I am back. Yipeeeeeeee. Anyways, here is where I am stuck........

I need to compute and simplify the difference quotient [f(x + h) - f(x)]/h.

the problem is

f(x) = 1x^2 + 6x - 14 and I am thinking the answer is something like 2x + 6 but I am not sure. Can someone give me some direction?

That is correct. Where are you stuck? You know you want
((x+h)^2+6(x+h)-14)-(x^2+6x-14))/h
Just expand and simplify. It's only algebra from there on.
