Having trouble figuring out this word problem, I have tried a few different ways and cant figure it out really.

A detective notes that 57 burglaries were reported through may of this year.

a) Create an equation that expresses the number of burglaries as a function on time (in months)
b) Use this equation to estimate the number of burglaries through the end of the year.

Any pointers in the right direction is greatly appreciated.

If (about) the same number of burglaries were reported each month, then (about) how many would there be each month. How many in Jan? How many in Feb and the total through Feb? for Mar? ...

so i came up with. (f) Burglaries= 11.4x(months)

So that says how many burglaries there are in a month and through the end of a month and answers part (a). For part (b) how many months are there in a year? So, according to the formula, about how many burglaries will there be through the end of the year?

It said throught the end of the year. Not for the whole year. So I figured June through December.
