you have a rectangle that is 200m by 80m with another rectangle inside it that has an area of 10000m[sup:2zltzeae]2[/sup:2zltzeae].

I need to...
find an expression for the width in terms of x
write and equation that expresses the area as a function of x
and write an equation to determine the value of x that gives an output of 10000, and solve with the resulting equation using the quadratic formula

Assume that

the inner-rectangle has a width = W

the inner-rectangle has a length = L

What is the - width of the outer-rectangle - in terms of x and W?

W=80-2x
L=200-2x
I think these are right but how do I make these in to a function of x and then make it so it describes the inner rectangle with an area of 10000 m2

Then write the expression for area in terms of L & W - and hence 'x'.
