need help with c part of question.....

Um... You're expecting us to buy the book? If so, sorry. If not, then please reply with the text of the question(s), including the instructions. Thank you! ;)

here it is brother....

Q.26]The Red cross wants to airlift supplies into a south american country which has experienced an earth quake.Four types of supplies each of which would be shipped in containers are being considered.One container of a particular item weighs 120,300,250 and 500 pounds respectively for four items. if the airplane to be used has a weight capacity of 60.000 pounds and xj equals the number of containers shipped into item j.

a] Determine the equation which ensures that the plane will be loaded to its weight capacity. solved

b] if it is decided to devote this plane to one supply item only, how many containers could be shipped of each item? solved

Q.27]each container of supply item require a specific volume of space.Suppose container of four items require 30,60,50 and 80 cubic feet respectively.if the volume capacity of the plane is 15000 cubic feet.

a] same as 26 solved

b] same as 26 solved

c]using the information from exercise 26 what is the maximum numbers of containers which could be shipped of each item if both weight and volume are considered?indicate in each case whether weight or volume capacity is the constraining factor. required

What are those equations?

What are those numbers?

How do those fit in this problem?

Now start to work at it...

Where is the problem?

See, this is quite confusing. However, I think what you are saying in Q 26 and Q 27, that there are 4 items in each container. So:

Item 1: 120 pounds, 30 cubic feet.
Item 2: 300 pounds, 60 cubic feet.
Item 3: 250 pounds, 50 cubic feet.
Item 4: 500 pounds, 80 cubic feet.
Plane: 60.000 pounds, 15.000 cubic feet.

Now, you have to set as much containers as possible not passing the limits of plane's capacity. So, 4 items go into 1 container, so we are going to add all the weight and all 4 volumes and make it container volume value and weight value for one container. Therefore, one container: 1170 pounds and 220 cubic feet.

According to this information: 60.000pounds/1170pounds = 51.28, by weight, you are able to fit 51 containers in your plane.
According to this information: 15.000cubic feet/210cubic feet=71.43, by volume, you are able to fit 71 containers in your plane.

THEREFORE, you can only fit 51 containers in your plane, since your weight cannot exceed the allowed 60.000 pounds, which makes weight your constraining factor.

I hope this helps! (and that I have understood your problem right!)

Thanks for the help but i think they are asking about each item if we consider both weight and volume.

26 part a] 120x1 +300x2 + 250x3 + 500x4 = 60000 ----------> Equation

part b] 120x1 =60000
x1 = 60000/120
x1 =500

same for x2 x3 and x4

part a and b of q27 are same but i dont understand the third part [c]......for each item if we have to take both weight and volume.how to do it....
