1. Criticize the following definition: "A line segment is a part of a line."

2. Criticize the following definition: "A plane is a flat surface."

3. How many end points does (a) a line have? (b) a line segment have? (c) a ray have?

4. Give three instances of physical surfaces which might be used to illustrate the concept of a plane.

5. (a) Consider two adjacent walls of your bedroom as representing portions of planes. What geometric shape is formed by the set of points common to the two planes? (b) Consider two adjacent walls and the ceiling of your bedroom as representing portions of planes. How many points are common to the three planes?

I don't know what to do at all. For # 1 and 2. I am not sure what to say. For 3-5 I have no idea where to even start.

Well, criticize them. Is that a good definition or explanation? Why or why not?

Line Segment? What are the three sides of a triangle? Do you need to know the whole line for each? Is that important?

Plane? Is that a good definition? It has an alarm word in it, "flat"? What does that mean? It is no more clear than "straight".

For the #3, seek their definitions. They will tell you.

I will add this: in order to criticize a definition one must fully understand the proper definition.
