a bakery sells 50 loaves a day of a particular breat at $1.50 a loaf. Research indicates that, for every 10 cent increase in the price, two fewer loaves would be sold. An equation for the daily revenue is R = -0.2xsquared + 2x + 75, where x represents the number of 10 cent increases.

a) use this equation to find out the number of $10.00 increases that will result in a daily revenue of $80.00

b) what is the new price of a loaf of bread?

c) what price for a loaf of bread would give a daily income of at least $79.20 ??

thats not true...i tried here lemme show u what i did

since its for every 10cent increse i made R = 800

800 = -0.2x^2 + 2x + 75
0 = -0.2x^2 + 2x - 725

put into quad. formula which is -b +/- (square root) b^2 - 4ac all over 2a
it becomes

x =-2 +/- (square root) 4 - 580 all over -0.4
x = -2 +/- (square root) -576 all over -0.4
(this is where i get stuck since u cant get the square root of negative -576...and im not even sure if i should use 800 or 80)

please help!

That is true. Jolly is free to feel that way about it

This problem is a bit confused.

Why is it asking about $10.00 increases when the problem statement suggests only 10¢ increases?

Why did you use 800 when the problem statement said $80?

Give it a good, careful, additional reading. Think it over and give it another shot.

how is it true? can u not read?? did u not see what i did ??? GET SOME GLASSES !!!!!!!!!

Excuse me, but tkhunny was trying to help you and she was being very cordial. Please stop being rude to our tutors. They work hard and if you didn't understand what she said or if YOU made a mistake, there are nicer ways to reply than the way that you did. So, please try to be a bit nicer to her. No one is angry, but we would appreciate it if you would lighten up a bit so that people don't go throwing their attitudes around, k? Any more rudeness on your part will most likely end badly, so please be nicer, we are only trying to help. :) Have a good day.

Of course the tutor can see what you did. And since what you did does not appear to match up with the posted exercise, you are being asked to post clarification. Such requests are made (1) when work is unclear and (2) to gently point the poster toward potential problem areas.

Posting using complete sentences with normal spelling would likely be very helpful. Thank you.

Eliz.

I always thought tkhunny was a man. :oops:

No worries. I'm quite pleased to be mistaken. This MUST mean that I'm being nicer than usual -- not as nice as Elizabeth, of course, but maybe I'm on my way.

Thanks Lizzie.

what's the difference? lol Anyway, which elizabeth did you mean? I vote for STAPEL!! :) Of course, there are likely about 10 Elizabeth's on this site... including myself, lol.

bewteefull...now we can only go up!
Curious: did you get a job at that bakery?

And you wonder why I am reluctant to offer help so easily. It's a thankless job.
