1. A bag of candy contains 24 oz. If you want to give 18 people equal servings how many ounces should you give each person?

2. In a particular class there are 27 women and 11 men. What fraction of the students are women?

If you'd had 24 people, how would you have divided the candy? What mathematical operation did you use?

If you'd had 12 people, how would you have divided the candy? What mathematical operation did you use?

If you'd had 8 people, how would you have divided the candy? What mathematical operation did you use?

If you'd had 6 people, how would you have divided the candy? What mathematical operation did you use?

In each case, what mathematical operation did you use? Use that operation for the given number of people.

You've been asked for a fraction. What then do you need to create? (Hint: A fraction.)

You've been asked to relate the number of female students to the number of all of the students. What numbers have they given you? How can you use this to relate to what they've asked of you? (Hint: Add.)

How many students are there in all? What fraction gives the information for which you've been asked? (Hint: Divide.) ;)
