I am trying to work this problem and can't seem to get the same answer as the book.

-4-3[2-(-5+3)]-8x22

If someone could work it out so I can see the order of operations i would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Let's try it a different way. Show us how you are working it out so we can see where you are going wrong.

Sure.. here is how I have been working it.

-4-3[2-(-5+3)]-8x22
-4-3[2-(-2)]-8x4
-4-3[4]-32
-7[4]-32
-28-32
= -60

Is x a variable or a multiplication sign? Use *, not x, for multiplication in algebra to avoid confusion. I am going to assume that it means multiplication, but if I am wrong in that assumption we are not going to get the intended answer.

-4-3[2-(-2)]-8x4 First step is fine.
-4-3[4]-32 This is good too (assuming x means multiply).
-7[4]-32 WHOA PEMDAS Multiplication before addition. - 4 - 12 - 32 = -16 - 32 = -48
-28-32
= -60
What answer does your book give?

Please remember in the future to show your work of if you cannot get started ask for a hint to get started. We provide help, not answers.

The book's answer is -48 and yes the "x" means multiply. I agree I should have use the "*" instead. My bad. I see where I went wrong now, in the future I will work out any problems I have instead of just posting the problem. After all I'm not looking for just an answer, I need to know how to work through the problem.

Thanks!
