In May, Betty ate four times as many watermelons as Sue. In June, Betty at nine fewer watermelons than in May while Sue at three times her original amount plus seven more watermelons. If they ate the same number in June, how many watermelons did they eat each in May.

Let the number of watermelons that Betty ate to be b and that of Sue be s, both in May.

In May;

b = 4s

(You have to multiply the amount that Sue ate to get the equivalent amount that Betty ate)

In June;

b - 9 = 3s + 7

b - 9 is the amount in may, less 9,
3s is thrice the amount that Sue ate in June, and then, we add 7.

With two equations and two unknowns, can you find the answers?
