I am attempting to complete some homework and am in need of help with the following problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1) sqr(x+32) - sqr (x+5)=3

2) x^2 + 4* x - 5 = 0

3) 2/(x-3) = 3/(x+2) Hint: 2 (x+2) = 3 (x+3)

Why, "alex's dad", are you doing alex's homework?

1) sqrt(x + 32) - sqrt(x + 5) = 3

Square both sides to get:

. . . . .2x + 30 - 2sqrt(x2 + 37x + 160) = 9

Add the square root to the right-hand side, and subtract the 9 to the left-hand side. Then square again to get:

. . . . .4x2 + 84x + 441 = 4x2 + 148x + 640

Subtract 4x2 from both sides, and solve the resulting linear equation.

2) x2 + 4x - 5 = 0

Find factors of -5 that add up to 4. Then factor as usual. Set each factor equal to zero, and solve the resulting linear equations.

3) 2/(x - 3) = 3/(x + 2)

Use the given hint: Start by cross-multiplying. Then solve the resulting linear equation.

Methinks you typoed, Eliz me deer...anyway, I prefer this way:

sqr(x + 32) = sqr(x + 5) + 3 ; now square both sides:

x + 32 = x + 5 + 6sqr(x + 5) + 9
6sqr(x + 5) = 18
sqr(x + 5) = 3 ; now square again:

x + 5 = 9
x = 4
