I know that you use it to get combinations and things like that...but could some one help me define in a more elegant way or give me a website that could help.

Define what? Does your text not provide a formula for <sub>n</sub>C<sub>r</sub>? Or are you asking for courses on probability, statistics, and/or combinatorics?

i need the definition of nCr such as a formula. our text doesn't give a clear explanation...
 
It seems odd that your text expects you to learn about and use something that it does not define. It must be astoundingly badly written.

Fortunately, you can find loads of information on the Internet, such as through search engines.
