Some of these terms are archaic!
They haven't been used since I was a child.



In the equation 2 + 4 = 6, 2 and 4 are addends, and 6 is the sum,.

In the equation \(\displaystyle 6 \times 3 = 18\), 6 is the multiplicand, 3 is the multiplier, and 18 is the product.

In \(\displaystyle \sqrt[3]{x-4}\), 3 is the index, \(\displaystyle (x-4)\) is the radicand, and \(\displaystyle \sqrt{}\) is the radical symbol.

In the equation \(\displaystyle 8-3=5\), 8 is the minuend, 3 is the subtrahend, 5 is the difference.

In the equation \(\displaystyle 12 \div 3 = 4\), 12 is the dividend, 3 is the divisor, 4 is the quotoent.


In cross multiplication, the product of the means equals the product of the extremes.

In the fraction \(\displaystyle \frac{7}{5}\), the fraction bar is a type of vinculum.

For a quick check for addition, reverse the addends.

For a quick check for multiplication, reverse the factors.

I don't see any terms there that are 'archaic'. Perhaps you think "they haven't been used since I was a child" because you have not studied arithmetic since you were a child. But they are in fact, still used as standard terms in arithmetic and will continue to be used for some time.

So, I had NO idea that the blanks were to be filled in with the letters from the list below the statements with the blanks.

As a teacher, if I had given this quiz to my students (with NO INSTRUCTIONS offered), and GRADED it, I could have expected lots of complaints from parents.

So the "NO" part is wrong. It's not a "taking." It's just taking it.
Drop the quotes. It's not a "quiz." It's a quiz. Drop the quotes.

to state that there was "NO."
NO, *why* assume that!? It's fine as soroban did it, and NOTICE how I
didn't state anything to him about his sytle of answers. In fact, you
misrespresented the situation, as soroban wasn't told something different
from his style.
