Think of (3x - 4) as ONE quantitity. Now, use the distributive property. Multiply each term in the second set of parentheses by that "one quantity" that is outside: (3x - 4)*4x + (3x - 4)*3 Now, use the distributive property again. Multiply each term inside the parentheses by the term which is outside: 3x*4x - 4*4x + 3x*3 - 4*3 Do the multiplications, and combine like terms.
