Need help with this one...
5/16 X 0.0012
I got 0.000375 on texas instument calculator however the answer should be 3/8,000 or 7/104 or 1.8
How do i work this problem out to find the answer

Re: multiply fractions with decimals

Do you mean those are your three choices and you bleieve one of them to be correct?

You have gotten the correct answer on your calculator. Your task now is to determine which of the given possibilities matches this correct answer.

Throw out 1.8 immediately. That is WAY too big.
Throw out 7/104 next most immediately. It is also very much too large. It's about 0.07, right?
Well, it has better be the last one. Prove it, please.

Start using * as multiplication sign (now standard).

Easier to "see" if you change .0012 to 12/10000:
5/16 * 12/10000
= 60 / 160000
= 6 / 16000
= 3 / 8000
